New BEC elected in Dobsonville Ward 47

Deadlock over for Ward 47 ANC.

Over the past two years, the ANC Ward 47 Nicholas Molokoane branch has been unsuccessful in launching their branch and electing a new Branch Executive Committee (BEC) to run branch affairs in Ward 47.

The deadlock has finally been broken after a new BEC was finally elected at the Dorothy Nyembe Park. They heeded ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa’s call and put their differences aside for the sake of maintaining a strong branch ahead of the 2019 elections.

There were various factors which hindered and prolonged the launch of ANC Ward 47 branch. This ranged from the dissatisfaction of some members, political infighting and their inability to form a quorum, despite the party enjoying popular support in the ward.

ANC members in jubilant mood after Nicholas Molekoane branch was launched.

Because of this, the Nicholas Molokoane branch has not been active for the past two years.
The national body of the ruling party prohibited the branch from participating in last year’s elections in Nasrec last year because their branch was by all accounts, non-existing.

The branch is made up of Dobsonville and Sigodiphola townships, which form part of Ward 47.
Branch member Tuis Nkutha said, “The ANC head office conducted an audit of ANC members in Ward 47 and declared that there were 118 members in good standing.

“We needed 61 to have election of the new BEC members. On the day of the elections, we had over 70 members who attended the BEC elections and proceeded with the elections of the new BEC.

“Proceedings were presided over by comrade Tintswalo Maluleke, who is a Regional Executive Committee member.”

Members are breathing a sigh of relief as there were 10 unsuccessful attempts by the branch to elect a new BEC over the past two years. He said the newly-elected will serve the branch for a two-year term.

Nkutha said, “The branch also nominated their preferred members to serve at the National Assembly and Provincial Legislature after the 2019 General Elections.

“The immediate task of the BEC members is to unite the branch members and mobilise our constituency towards next year’s elections.

“We accept that there were some shortcomings and misunderstandings among ourselves, but the election of this new BEC must be taken as a start in rebuilding the organisation that will work for all the people and we ask to be given a chance.”

The new office bearers are chairperson Tuis Nkutha, deputy chairperson Nhlanhla Mayisela, secretary Fred Makoko, councillor Tebogo Mhlari as the deputy secretary, Daphney Nzima as the treasurer and 10 additional members.
