Ward 29 residents want SANCO

"I have seen people in various communities suffer because there is no SANCO to come to their rescue, now I ask myself, how people manage without SANCO."

The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) held its one of many meetings in Diepkloof where the people were told that they needed to assemble at least 56 people for the structure for SANCO to stand and exist in Diepkloof Ward 29.

The chairperson for SANCO Gauteng Region, Thomas Thaqe explained to the people that SANCO is not a political party henceforth; the organisation does not deal with political issues, rather household issues.

Thaqe described the issues they deal with at SANCO as bread and butter issuers, the technical issues that affect every resident in an area like electricity faults, water faults, fraudulent purchasing of houses and child-headed homes.

Thomas Thaqe and Judy Magoro break down the meaning of SANCO.

Thaqe said, “I have seen people in various communities suffer because there is no SANCO to come to their rescue, now I ask myself, how people manage without SANCO.”

He explained that SANCO plays the role of going to the government and the relevant stakeholders on behalf of the people to solve their issues.

One resident from ward 29, Stanley Seane spoke up about how his neighbourhood would really appreciate a helping hand because their area is crime-ridden, he said.

“People get robbed off their bags every morning and evening, we need help to combat crime.”

The coordinator for the meeting, Judy Magoro explained to the people that the meeting would have to be adjourned until 56 people are assembled to start the SANCO structure, she said.

“We need SANCO in our communities to deal with our service delivery issues, and people should understand that before you belong to any political party, you are a resident, and that is where we get in.”
