Quick-thinking patrollers discover stockpiles of dumped medicines Dobsie soccer field
Ndou said that closer inspection revealed some of the medicines to include ARV pills, respiratory medicines, Panado pills and TB medicine.
The lives of unsuspecting Dobsonville children were placed in mortal danger after residents became aware of stockpiles of expired medicine which were dumped near a soccer field on October 13.
Thankfully, the children from the area were spared any harm due to the vigilance of neighbourhood watch group, Creativity Arts Safety Environment Institution (CASE).
According to CASE coordinator Eric Ndou, they received an alert from a resident who told them that at about 1am he noticed a suspicious looking group of people offloading loaded dustbins on the field.
Ndou said, “We assigned our members to investigate and at 5am our patrollers made the discovery of piles of medicine dumped alongside the soccer grounds.”
He said that closer inspection revealed some of the medicines to include ARV pills, respiratory medicines, Panado pills and TB medicine.
According to Ndou, they were fortunate to discover the expired medicines before the children came out to play on the field for the day. He added that his concern was that most children like to experiment and many may have ingested some of the disposed medicine which may have proven fatal.
Ndou said, “We called the police and the Ward 47 councillor, Tebogo Mhlari to the scene.
“The expiration dates on the medication is 2020 and patients’ names were written on the label.
“The police, residents and CASE members loaded the medication on a police bakkie.
“We applaud the whistle blower who informed us because no children were harmed.”
