Diski nine-nine in Meadowlands this weekend

32 teams battled it out to make it the round of 16. All in all, a great weekend for soccer fans and the Meadowlands faithful who cheered their teams on.


Meadowlands had a soccer-filled weekend as the annual June 16 Memorial Cup Tournament started at the BRT Grounds in Zone Nine.  A whopping 32 teams went head to head and the first eight teams squared off on May 20 to qualify to be in the top 16.

The first match was a clash between Peace Makers and Dube Continental. Both sides gave it their all, but Dube Continental emerged victorious and were through to the top 16.

In the second game of the day, JC Power  were pitted against Khenza Football club. The arch rivals played to a 1-1 draw in the first half. Tempers flared during the second half and the referee issued two red cards, one per team.
As the game progress, JC Power were awarded a corner kick and used the chance to settle matters with a 2-1 win over their foes.

Mambas played Katlehong Arsenal in the third match. The fiery Katlehong Arsenals edged out their opponents and reserved themselves a berth in the round of 16, after sealing the deal by winning the penalty shootout.
