Zola Mini League calls for unity in local football

Call for progress in football.

Following the Zola Mini League that took place a few weeks ago, representatives from the Local Football Association under the Soweto South Zonal League are calling for unity in the local football fraternity.

The open call comes after a mini league was hosted in Jabulani separate from the Soweto Football Association’s programme. The risk in hosting separate tournaments in one area is that it may result in clashes in the games that take place because the same venue may be used by two separate organisations.

“We are not against the practice of having separate associations functioning in one area but we wish that there be open communication and transparency between the existing associations or unity under one association.

“We once lost some boys because of the existence of more than one association or league where a player was stabbed to death and the following year a car disrupted a game when it entered the field and knocked over everyone that was on the field.

“After the incident, we reported it to Safa and we found that there are benefits by SAFA for players who are under them where they can assist when it comes to funerals.

“The problem is that the players had no membership cards so they couldn’t benefit, and that is when we took a resolution that we should start registering players and we then started convening our programmes under one football association,” said coach Voyvoy Patrice Ntshanyisa.

Part of the suggested resolutions to the local football fraternity is that no leagues would be played without winning prizes and to encourage churches and NGO to be part of soccer programmes to make sports more holistic.
