Sewing for bread and butter

Dressmaking to put food on the table.

Being unemployed and having to put food on the table is a tough task for anyone who has to take that responsibility.

Some people end up being on the wrong side of the law due to poverty, but some do whatever is necessary to put food on the table without committing any crime.

One of the residents who has worked hard to avoid going behind bars is Walizi Yusuf. Yusuf has tried hard to avoid poverty by opening his own business of dressmaking after trying hard to find a job but could not get any. Dressmaking has helped me to find a roof over my head and feed my wife who I stay with in Chiawelo.

“I started this business in 2013 and I have improved,” said Yusof. He said he learned to use his equipment from his friends who are doing the business elsewhere and started to open his.

“The community is supportive and I get customers every day. “Some of them return to me when they need their clothes to be fixed or when they need traditional gear,” said Yosof.

He said a few people in his area are doing the same job so he is lucky that it has worked for him. Yosof’s business is at 104 Chiawelo Extension Three.
