‘Half a loaf is better than none’

Interested aspiring baking students should contact Angeline Molete on 073 238 3994.

In a country where an alarmingly large number of youths are roaming the streets as a result of being unemployed, many are turning to non-traditional ways of earning an income.

To stave off the hunger pangs and to stay out of the unemployment line, Angeline Molete, the Lejwe La Thuso non-profit organisation (NPO) founder officially launched her bakery in Dobsonville on January 21.

An elated Molete said, “The objective of establishing this bakery is to equip residents with baking skills. We are working with reputable baking instructors from Shake & Bake who will be available at our centre in the middle of the week.

“They will be available from the morning until late in the afternoon. The duration of the course is six weeks and certificates will be given to students on completion.”

Students are required to pay R 100 registration fee and an additional R 450 for the course. Students who complete the course will be given a baking start-up kit which includes measuring jug, aprons, cutter, roller and measuring spoons.

Molete added that “Currently, 120 students are registered with the centre for the course. We urge residents to come in their numbers to register in order to transform their lives. The course is opened for both males and females across all age groups.”

The NPO has also launched a soup kitchen on January 26 for needy residents and pupils which operates from Monday to Friday.

“We will be providing food from the morning before learners go to school and in the afternoon. Our beneficiaries will also be upskilled in knitting and arts and craft,” said Molete.

Rirhardzu officials will be providing counselling to most of the soup kitchen beneficiaries.
