Doubts about SG election leads to recount

Senzo Mchunu allocated an additional 15 votes after recount.

Cyril Ramaphosa may have emerged as the new president for the ANC from the recent Conference, however questions were raised about uncounted votes in the race for the position of ANC SG (Secretary General).

According to the information supplied by Marry Mazibuko, “There are currently 63 votes that have not been counted and added to the total. Those votes were declared as special votes, and were sealed in an envelope waiting for the decision of the steering committee before they can be counted and added into all the top 6 positions.
If they will be finally counted and added into the votes, they are to affect the position of the SG.”
This is a matter to be presented to Plenary tomorrow morning for a decision.

Mazibuko said, “Can we discuss Ace Magashule’s win.”

She said, *Voting delegates were 4776
Ace Magashule got 2360 votes
Senzo Mchunu got 2336 votes
There were 8 abstentions
There were 4 spoilt votes
2360+2360+8+4= 4708
4776-4708=68
What happened to the 68 votes?”

She said “Over the excitement, we did our maths. We’d love to know.”

A vote recount however, confirmed Ace Magashule’s election as the new ANC Secretary General despite his opponent Senzo Mchunu being allocated an additional 15 votes.
