WATCH: Pimville Biker inspires kids

"It is great to see pro bikers giving back."

From a cattle herder in the Tshiheni Village, Limpopo, to the owner of the most successful motorcycle training school in Soweto and a brand ambassador for Yamaha South Africa, Alfred Matamela well known as ‘King Donut’ inspires kids in his community.

Matamela’s biking academy is the first in Soweto and has produced a lot of riders not only in Soweto but South Africa as a whole.

The academy is based on Pimville and training is done at the Rand Stadium.

“We do get trainees that come all the way from other provinces. I have trained a lot of people in the art of motorcycling, from doctors, nurses to pilots to VIP escorts,” said Matamela.

He inspires and fascinates kids in his community. He said coming back home for him is always special because he knows that he will find his little fans waiting for him to come back and entertain them outside his house.

He shows off his spinning and riding skills in the streets of Pimville to Awestruck audiences of kids and teenagers.

“They want to be like ‘King Donut’, sometimes you’ll find them having their fantasy moments where I usually spin my bike. This motivates me to do even better because I know there are people looking up to me. I sometimes give them rides around the block when I get time,” he said.

It is great to see pro bikers like him giving back and being genuine, few hobbies can claim such great role models for the younger generations.

Although he has kids in his academy, he said that he prefers adults because with kids the height often becomes a problem.

“For adults, biking has a lot of advantages, for instance, it is one of the cheapest modes of transport and it is an easy way to manoeuvre around traffic,” he said.

“It is important that people go through proper training channels, be safe, mentally fit, wear protective clothing and always remember that alcohol and bikes don’t go together,” he concluded.
