Meadowlands Zone 2 residents protest against Eskom prepaid meters

All major routes in Zone 2 barricaded

At about 10 pm yesterday, all major routes in Meadowlands Zone 2 were barricaded with rocks and burning tyres as residents revolted against the installation of Eskom prepaid meters.

Residents are reproachful to the idea of prepaid meters as they’ve made it clear during public meetings organised by ward councillor Takalani Nefotoni.

Motorists who make use of the route were prevented from driving there.

It is also important to note that Meadowlands residents aren’t the first community to express a hint of disapproval over prepaid meters. Dobsonville and Orlando residents were up in arms last year opposing Eskom’s plan to install prepaid meters.

Although it hasn’t really been proven efficiently, many people claim that prepaid meters use up a lot of electricity and that it doesn’t last at all.

An update will follow as the protest progress.
