The latest cellphone snatching victim is Mbali Mabizela from Braamfischerville.

Cellphone snatching is on the rise and unsuspecting commuters are the most affected by this rampant crime which leaves them devastated and without their valuables.

The latest cellphone snatching victim is Mbali Mabizela from Braamfischerville even though she managed to rescue her cellphone from the hands of the criminal. According to Mabizela, she recently fell victim to snatch and grab crime on her way to work.

“I was busy sending a text message on my cell phone when a stranger grabbed my cellphone. It was dark and not aware that the taxi window was slightly opened at the back seat,” said Mabizela.


Mbali Mabizela is the latest cellphone grabbing victim.

She said the stranger grabbed her cellphone tightly; luckily she also grabbed her cell phone tighter and the perpetrator’s efforts were in vain even though he pulled her hand out of the taxi window.

“He could have cut my hand off! I’m still shocked from the ordeal but luckily, I did not get hurt. It all happened so fast.”

One self-confessed nyaope addict from Braamfisherville, said they sell stolen cellphone for as little as R20, 00 for a cell phone worth R2000.


Mbali Mabizela nearly lost her cellphones from criminals.

“Addiction is a terrible thing, you cannot control it. Getting my next fix is all that matters and I will do anything to get it,” he said.

Dobsonville Police Spokesperson Captain Jeanette Phefo advised people to put their valuable gadgets on a safe place especially when sitting inside the car.

“They should refrain from exposing cell phones in the remote places because criminals will pounce on them.”
