Protest leaves commuters stranded

From Lenasia to Johannesburg, I now have to take a take a taxi.

The protest which occurred last week in Nancefield at Klipspruit has left commuters using the trains from Vereeniging to Johannesburg stranded.

The Metrorail Station, Nancefied has been closed and commuters have to find another way to work or to school. Many of the commuters now use the Naledi to Johannesburg trains and according to one of the commuters, Trevor Mdlalose transport has become a setback for him.

“From Lenasia to Johannesburg, I now have to take a take a taxi and go to Merafe Station in Mapetla to catch a train. “I now spend more money in transport,” he said.

A lot of commuters are now in danger of Naledi trains being overloaded due to the closure on Nancefield Station. The community of Nancefield took to the streets protesting and demanding housing.

At least two people were killed during a dispute between Prasa security guards and angry community members when the protest moved to the Nancefield station.

During the dispute, a 17-year-old boy was gunned down, a security guard was beaten to death and a pregnant woman was wounded. Train services at the Nancefield station have been suspended until further notice.
