'You can't hide money from a black person in a book anymore'
Jabavu Library was graced with the presence of Executive Mayor, Councillor Herman Mashaba and the MMC of Community Development Nonhlanhla Sifumba to officially launch the extension of the operating hours at 10 of the City’s Regional libraries.
The aim of extending these operational hours is to make services and institutions accessible to those who have been neglected in the past.
Once compliance has been insured by Labour Law and regulations, operational hours will be extended on weekdays to  9 am till 8 pm and on weekends to 1 pm till 5 pm.
“The initial idea was to start by extending the operational hours of the clinics which were started back in November 2016 without any budget and now we have 5 clinics within the city that have extended hours,” said Mashaba.
Sifumba stated that she was initially afraid when she heard about this idea, but she is excited that young and old will have extended access to information.
Jabavu ward councillor, Jabavu Freddie Banda emphasised the fact that we should not forget our roots of oral storytelling.
After the launch, the mayor attended the school holiday programme that is being held regularly at Jabavu library.
