Glen Ridge Young Stars into the Pro League

From just passion to a professional league.

The Glen Ridge Young Stars in Glen Extension 16 was formed in 2014 and started with U15 boys who have shown their passion for soccer.

It has now grown and consists of four divisions which are U11, 13, 15 and 17 and all these teams are taking part in the Protea Zonal League.

“We have a group of talented boys. They have shown great interest in playing soccer. They used to organize tournaments on their own. Through their determination, we could see that all they needed was guidance and support,” said Thabelo Mathiba.

Soccer has always had a great impact in keeping the kasi boys busy than being on the streets doing nothing, and the establishment of this team has just proven that.

“Realising the potential these boys have, earlier this year, I committed myself to taking charge as a coach. I wanted to provide motivational support to these lads,” said coach Boipelo Nkotsoe.

“At the moment we have nothing to show, but I believe that in the long run, these boys are going to deliver because they are talented. I and my colleagues have introduced new playing techniques which we believe the players are getting used to, and if they can master these techniques, they will be unstoppable in the field of play,” said Nkotsoe.

So far the team has played almost 13 league games and participated in few tournaments which were held in the area.

On these few games the U13 played, they have eight wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss.

On the other hand, the senior team (U17) have six wins, five losses, and 1 draw.
