Gauteng Government to assist Mokoena family

Department of Social Development to provide relief to the Mokoena family.

Gauteng Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza dispatched a team of social workers yesterday to visit the family of Karabo Mokoena to assist them with psychosocial support.

Mokoena was reported missing last month and only her burnt body was found.

On Thursday, police arrested her boyfriend who apparently confessed to killing her.

“The team visited the family today to assess what interventions may be required to help them deal with the tragic loss. They will then provide us with a report and we’ll announce these details after.

“The Gauteng Provincial Government is saddened by this senseless killing, happening as does on during the period in which we are commemorating family values.

“This is the clearest indication that society needs to participate more in preventing social crimes such as violence against women and children.

“We can continue to enforce the law as government and care for victims of gender-based violence, but if families and communities do not get involved and help prevent social crimes we will not win this war,” she said.
