Meadowlands: Community member volunteers to teach basketball

Teaching young stars basketball

Junior Arsenal is a basketball team in Meadowlands that was formed last year January by Nthabiseng Mathibe.

Mathibe said that she saw how children from her location use the basketball and volleyball court for all the wrong doings such as smoking nyaope and gambling.

“I just picked the children who were on the ground and asked them to come play basketball with me.

“I asked them to come to practice and explained that I am willing to coach them basketball.

“I used to practice basketball here,” said Mathibe.

Mathibe said that her team competes with teams from Sandton and Kibler Park as there are no teams to compete within the location.

“People host an event here and not bother to clean afterward which makes it difficult to practice in a dirty place with broken bottles.

“This endangers my team, what if someone falls on top of a broken bottle,” she said.

Mathibe urges people to keep the basketball and volleyball court clean.
