Gauteng Premier David Makhura and MEC Panyaza Lesufi launch 2018 Online Admissions
Parents can start registering their school children online for 2018.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura and MEC for Gauteng Education Panyaza Lesufi officially launched the 2018 online admissions and assist communities to practically apply online when the system is live.
The programme started with a blitz at Eyethu Mall, (at a taxi and train station) from 06:00, where the premier and MEC’s interacted with commuters and issue pamphlets to the community to apply on time and apply online.
The Gauteng Department of Education has released the official announcement of the 2018 Online Admissions Applications Process.
The parents of learners in Gauteng are once more requested to apply online for Grades 1 and 8 for the 2018 academic year.
Applications start on May 2 from 8 am and close at midnight on June 12.
Parents can log on the website: www.gdeadmissions.gov.za to apply for either Grade 1 or Grade 8 and can apply at their nearest school for in-between grades, namely Grade 2 to 6 or Grade 9 to 11.
The people of Gauteng have spoken about the challenges they have faced with the online system last year, the department has, among others, made the following significant changes to the online application process:
– The application process will be a three-step once-off process that is, it has eliminated the two-stage process of registering a profile and then later doing the application.
– It has made an interactive and easy to use website, language choice options, that is a parent can select a language that they want to use to apply.
– If the system cannot locate the address due to informal settlements among others, the system will still provide school options based on the address nearest to home or workplace.
– The capacity of the system has been improved to cope with the traffic.
– A video tutorial, picture step-by-step guide and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for immediate guidance and reference will be available on the website www.education.gpg.gov.za and www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.
After logging on the system, the parent should follow the following steps:
– Enter parent details
– Enter learner details
– Select a school
– Click apply
Upon submitting the online application form, parents will receive their waiting list number via SMS or email and will be required to submit all their supporting documents to the relevant school.
Supporting documents include ID/Passport, immunization card, most recent school reports, proof of work or home address, birth certificate, legal guardianship among others.
The department urges parents to start preparing all relevant supporting documents in order to avoid unnecessary delays.
Admission centres, at least 65, will be established in various parts of Gauteng to assist parents that do not have access to the internet.
GDE officials will be deployed to capture the applications for such parents in the Admission Operations Centre.
In addition, parents can go to the community libraries or Thusanong centres to utilise computers that have internet access.
The placement phase will start from July 24 to September 29.
Parents will receive SMS notification or letter from the school informing them that their application has been successful or otherwise.
Those given offers of placement have seven working days to accept or reject the offer.
