Counsellors in Jabavu offer a Lifeline

So you feel down every now and then, no biggie? But what if you start to feel down all the time? You experience the same not so good feeling day in and day out.

You think you know the triggers but you are also not sure. You think you have a problem but then you are also not sure. Yes, there is an organisation that offers counselling in the township for free.

Lifeline Soweto (CWJ)- Central Western Jabavu)- is an emotional wellness organisation with a 45 -year-old track record, offering various wellness programmes free of charge to the greater Soweto community.

The centre offers free face to face counselling, couple counselling, family counselling or group counselling. The centre deals with people who face various issues such as relationship issues, depression, rape, addiction, job loss or retrenchment, trauma, amongst others.

”We also do community dialogues where we talk about the reproduction system and adolescent issues with boys and girls in schools like Donaldson Senior Primary School and other schools around the community, which is supported by Ford Foundation. ”The main aim is to prevent teenage pregnancies and HIV/AIDS,” said Mpho Kgame, representative of Lifeline.

A Self Growth and Counselling skills course are also offered, it is a year long course available at Jabavu and Norwood. Lifeline also has branches in Alexandra and Norwood.

Counselling is not just for a certain type of community or a certain type of people, plus confidentiality is guaranteed.
