‘Beware your car is at risk in Protea Glen’

Police are urging resident drivers in Protea Glen to be more vigilant in these carjacking hotspots.

Thubelisha, Greenvillage, Sunrise Park, the corner of Impala road and on the N12 next to waterworks informal settlement have become the new carjacking hotspots in Protea Glen.

The Protea Glen SAPS warn against the increase of cars being hijacked in those areas and plead with the community to be more vigilant.

Sergeant Vincent Mashiteng, communication officer said, “Most suspects were armed with firearms when hijacking unsuspecting victims.

They would hijack their victims and force them to drive and they would drop them off far in an open field to ensure that people take longer to report.

Most people are hijacked next to their driveways after being followed.

People should be aware at all times and be observant to the vehicles following them.

According to police reports, these incidents also happen when residents are parked in their vehicles on their pavements.

The most occurrences are in the evening.

On Impala road people were also hijacked by suspects who would allegedly block their way with a vehicle and point at them with firearms.

In other incidents, victims were hijacked by suspects who were allegedly wearing the Metro Police uniform.

Mashiteng said, “We are appealing to the community to continue assisting the police with information about any criminal activity they are aware of.”
