Adv Dali Mpofu to represent NTHA in court regarding the Yeoville case

Liquor traders fighting for liquor licenses.

The National Tourism and Hospitality Association (NTHA) held its first general meeting in Meadowlands on February 15 to inform its members about the appointment of advocate Dali Mpho to represent them in court.

NTHA secretary Phumzile Ratladi said that they have hired Mpofu to represent them during the liquor license case that has been in progress for almost three years.

“The future of the industry is not in safe hands.

“We are calling all liquor traders to come and support us because this issue affects all of us,” she said.

The case was brought upon by the Yeoville residents who complained about unruly shebeens in the area.

Residents asked the high court to stop the liquor board from converting the shebeen permits into liquor licenses.

According to Ratladi, 40 licenses were issued in the WestRand and after that, the process was placed on hold.

“This issue is affecting liquor traders in terms of trading legally.”

NTHA was formed in 1999 as an informal association for women trading in liquor and food.

NTHA assist their members in complying with liquor trading acts and codes of conduct.

The court date is not revealed yet.
