Cuban Vice president meets doctors in Jabulani, Soweto-Bheki Mlangeni Hospital

Salvador Mese meets the people on the ground to strengthen foreign relations

Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa visited Soweto on Wednesday as part of his bid to strengthen relations with South Africa.

The visit to Bheki Mlangeni Hospital formed part of his walk through a routine to investigate operations in South Africa and to show support to us and Cuban professionals in our country.

“In his visit, he had a particular interest in the health sector and among the places he visited is Jabulani as there are doctors from Cuban work here with us.

“We have about five doctors in the hospital from Cuba and at the same time there are many students who are completing their qualifications in Cuba, so these interrelations constantly need to be monitored, tuned up and improved.

“So in the greater scheme of things, this visit is to strengthen these relations and to show active leadership that keeps contact with what happens on the ground,” said Richard Lebethe from the Department of Health.
