Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards

The inaugural Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards took place at the Walter Sisulu Square. The awards were celebrating and honouring Mzansi artists and bands and the music they bless their fans with.

With the 90/10 representation policy and the music awards, the South African arts and music scene has what it takes to flourish into more. Only three categories were featured in this year’s event and included Kwaito, House and general.

The general category group included the best Music Video, Best Collaboration and Song of the year.

The results of voters for the recipient of the award were as follows:

• Best Female Artist 2016 – Busiswa, Alaska won – Best Kwaito Group, Most Voted Song 2016 – Durbanites with- Shumaya, New Upcoming
• House DJ – Dj Siso from Afrotainment(Tira).
• The Best House Female Artists was taken by – Nokwazi Dlamini from Galawa, Best Male House Artists – Oskido, Best Kwaito Male Artists –
• Mandoza, Best Kwaito Female- Mshoza.
• The best New Up-Coming Kwaito – was taken by Paul Kulcha, while Best Radio Station that plays house and Kwaito – was Lesedi Fm, Best
• Pantsula Group – Hlaks Pantsula group from the Vaal.
• The Lifetime Achievement Award was- Mandoza and Trompies was rewarded for being kwaito legends.

Lifetime achievement awards were also given to Mdu, being crowd as godfather of kwaito, while Oskido was awarded for being a pioneer and legend in both kwaito and house music.
