Legend spends time with YOVA children

Patrick Shai determined to give back to the community of Dobsonville.

Legendary actor Patrick Shai joined the Young Voice Academy (YOVA) during one of their teaching practice that was held at Kopanong Hall in Dobsonville.

The actor spent time with the YOVA children by participating in different activities.

Project Director of YOVA Thato Phiri said that the teachings practice is one of the main objectives of YOVA, “We have a group of young children from different Pre-Schools and Primary Schools age between 6 to 13 years and we teach them drama, basketball and life orientation skills.

YOVA is a Non- Profit Organisation (NPO) founded in 2014 and registered in 2015 with the purpose of uplifting the community using a variety of social empowerment platforms by focusing on young children and the youth.

“We created the drama in order to instil discipline, develop personality and shape character for young children in the community,” said Phiri.

Shai is currently working on a campaign that seeks to end the use of Nyaope in the community of Dobsonville.

The campaign is referred to as the Adam’s night camp, which is the three day camp that explores various ways of bridging both social and family gabs with a special focus on fathers and sons through the facilitation of an introspective overnight camp for boys and men.
