Student busted for possession of drugs, UJ

Campus security arrest suspected drug merchant.

A University of Johannesburg Soweto Campus student has been arrested for possession of drugs and dagga.

The 21-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday by a security guard on campus and handed over to the Kliptown Police Station. Police spokesperson captain Hitler Ngwenya said the student has been charged and will appear at the Lenasia Magistrate Court.

He said, “While the security guard was busy with his regular patrols on campus he found a man in a toilet busy packing dagga and other drugs in small bags. He then detained and handed him over to the police for further investigation.

Ngwenya has applauded the diligent and commitment of the security guard and student who helped with the apprehension.

“The dedication of the security personnel and the students who collectively came forward with information is highly commended. They put their lives on the line to protect others. Kliptown police will at all times stand firm against any criminal elements,” he said.
