Fun Day for primary school children

Moruta Thuto Primary is celebrating Mandela Month on a different note with their children.

Meadowlands school, Moruta Thuto Primary is having a Fun Day of activities as a way to celebrate Mandela Month with the children.

Through a partnership between the principal of the school and a company called Life Green Group that mainly does landscaping, sports fields, construction and maintenance the company the school is buzzing with activities.

“We are part of a country-wide project called Partners for Possibility, which basically linked business leaders with principals of schools five years ago,” said Rob Lewis financial director of Life Green Group.

A school that caters to 560 children, the school managed to organise different fun, sporting activities for the entire day; namely soccer, netball, chess, games painted on the school grounds, hopscotch, mathematical games, reading activities and ball games.

A full programme has been organised for each Grade in the school and the teachers, staff members from Life Green Group are there to assist in monitoring the children.

“There’s a lot you can yourselves, but we appreciate that there is a lot you can do to help,” said Lewis.

Chairman of the Student Governing Body of the school said, “ Tata Mandela loved children, and he never wanted children to suffer.

He felt that children are the future of our country so we must keep them away from the streets, they must be focused but they must also be able to have fun and be children.

So that is the idea for today and that is why we are celebrating the month of Mandela this way.”

The school has also organised some lunch for each learner for later on in the day.
