Miss Soweto preach the gospel of education

The queen of Soweto rolls out her community outreach programme which focuses on education.

Miss Soweto 2015 Buhle Xulu spent her day with children at the Golden Ark Children’s Centre in Orlando West on Friday last week.

The reigning Soweto queen’s visit to the centre formed part of her community outreach programme which she started when she took over the crown in December last year.

She spoke to children about the importance of school and motivated them to never give up on their dreams

“I’m here today to tell you that you are important and there are many people out there who love and care for you.

Don’t forget that education is important and through it, you can conquer all, so stay at school,” said Xulu to the kids.

Kids were very excited to spend the day and interact with the queen of Soweto.  Motivational speakers Thato “winners” Mokoena and Cecil Mleshane accompanied Xulu on her visit to the centre and they all preached the gospel of education to the kids.

The Orland West based Golden Ark Children’s Centre is home to more than 150 children who come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

They are served breakfast every morning before school and lunch after school. The centre also acts as an aftercare facility in the afternoon where children engage in activities like arts, gardening and sports.

“Today was all about showing love to our little brothers and sisters. The most important message that I’m trying to convey through my outreach programme is the importance of education.

“My programmes are not limited to girls but they are targeting both boys and girls hence I’m here in a centre which accommodates both boys and girls,” said Xulu.

Motivation was not the only thing Miss Soweto brought to the centre on the day. She donated loads of maize meal courtesy of her sponsors White Star Super Maze Meal.

Centre manager Martin Moloto expressed her gratitude to Miss Soweto for visiting them and spending the day with kids.

“We are very grateful to her for what she has done for the centre and the kids. This is really inspiring and gives hope to the kids that there are people out there who care for them,” said Moloto.
