First kasi wedding expo a hit

The first ever wedding expo to be held in Soweto lives up to expectation.

The first ever wedding expo to be held in the township took Sowetans by storm this past weekend.

Held at Maponya Mall, the Wedshow 2016 attracted thousands of people who were eager to see what wedding expos are all about.

The event was organised by Chuma Events and it was aimed at bringing closer to the people all that is required to make a wedding a success.

From gown designers to décor and bakers, everything was brought under one roof under the banner of the Wedshow.

The expo played a crucial role in exposing local upcoming businesses to potential customers while providing a platform for the soon to wed to get tips.

“It really made shopping a great experience for our customers and we can only grow from this.

“We had fashion shows, cake tastings and a lot of other activities. The highlight was the seminar on marriage and relationships. The pastor literally brought a couple of women to tears,” said Petunia Tsotsetsi who is the centre marketing manager at Maponya Mall.

The expo was open to the public and no admission fee was required.

Even though it was open to everyone, the expo was mostly targeted to engaged couples who are soon to get married.

The response the event got has made the organisers to start thinking about plans of making it an annual affair.

Lulu Ngomane from Chuma Events shared the same sentiment with Tsotetsi about the seminar being the highlight of the day.

“Our pastor has received plenty of calls with clients making bookings to see him for marital counselling. We will definitely host this event on an annual basis and plan to be bigger and better.

“The wedding winner stole the show, as she couldn’t stop crying. She is getting married in

July as they couldn’t afford a wedding they had planned to register at home affairs and have lunch at home afterwards. Her day was made,” said Ngomane.

Wedding ideas were not all that couples got at the expo. A grand prize of R50000 towards wedding expenses was up for grabs on the day and

Ida Mabunda took it all. She is set to walk down the aisle next month.
