Mhlongo’s adopt a child campaign helps build confidence

MP on a mission to change children's lives.

Member of Parliament Tsepo Mhlongo has called on other leaders to go back to their communities and help underprivileged children as they start the new year of schooling.

Mhlongo’s call comes after he delivered new full school uniform to a pupil at Thembalihle Primary School on Wednesday morning during the reopening of schools.

For the past three years, Mhlongo has been adopting one child at the school he once attended.

The adopted pupil benefits with school uniform and gets all school trips paid for by Mhlongo.

Lindiwe Mathole became this year’s beneficiary of Mhlongo’s campaign.

“It’s only fair that I come back to my former school and give back. I challenge other leaders to do the same and help especially at primary level because that’s where an education foundation is built,” said Mhlongo.

He believes that it is not fair to only focus on Grade 12s when the results are released.

“We tend to forget that in order for these pupils to pass their matric, they need a good and solid foundation which is built at primary level,” explained Mhlongo.

This initiative not only helps pupils get school uniforms but it helps build confidence in them as well.
