Update: Education MEC speaks to parents

Angry parents want Noordgesig Primary principal suspended.

Panyaza Lesufi, MEC for Education in Gauteng, addressed angry parents who had gathered Noordgesig Primary.

Learning was disrupted as pupils want the school principal suspended.

There were reports that one boy had died from his injuries after the school had organised a trip for them to get circumcised went horribly wrong.

This was not confirmed by the school nor the police.

Lesufi gave parents an opportunity to voice their grievances.

“The circumcision trip is just one issue, we want the principal suspended because there are other issues we are not happy about,” said one parent.

They have accused the school of practising corporal punishment.

“We are also paying too much school fees for our Grdae Rs. Renovations are also taking too long,” said another parent.

The MEC promised to come back on Friday to give feed back to the parents.

“I will consult officials from the department and revert back to you this Friday.

“In the meantime, I appeal to you (parents) not to disrupt learning as it will affect your children,” said Lesufi.

Police were still in the area to monitor the situation.
