Noordgesig Clinic temporarily closed for renovations

Patients complain about the closure of Noordgesig Clinic.

The Noordgesig Clinic was temporarily closed due to renovations on July 1, promising residents a mobile clinic.

Patients have been advised to visit the Orlando Clinic, while the clinic is being revamped.

Zola Matwasa, Department of Health and Infrastructure site manager said, “The clinic will be closed for 18 to 24 months.

“The equipment from the clinic will be given to other clinics that do not have them.”

Amanda Mjuqu, a mother of a nine-month-old baby and a Pennyville Phase Four resident said that she didn’t know that the clinic was closed.

“I brought my daughter for her monthly immunisation.

“I feel bad, because this clinic is the closest,” she said.

Mjuqu said that she does not have money to go to other clinics.

Wendy Prom (70), a Noordgesig resident said that the nurses at the clinic (Noordgesig) warned that it is not going to be easy that side.

“We (pensioners) were promised to be given a mobile clinic.

“I don’t know how we are expected to go to the clinic if we don’t even have money.”

Nomuzi Moyo, an Orlando resident said, “I used to wait for 15 minutes to do family planning, but since patients from Noorgesig started coming here, it takes an hour to do it.

“We are sometimes told that medication is finished.”

Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Gauteng Shadow for Health Jack Bloom said, “The contractors seem to take too long to build these clinics.

“It is clear that the Orlando Clinic is not dealing with the influx of patients well.

“The health department needs to send more staff to the Orlando Clinic to help speed up the waiting process.”

An email was sent to Department of Health and we are still waiting for a response.
