Station celebrates birthday with Little Rose

Christmas came early for Little Rose Centre when talk radio 702 paid them a visit.

Little Rose Centre in Kliptown was pleasantly surprised when talk radio 702 paid the centre a visit, celebrating their 35 years in radio.

The 702 truck of love spread joy to organisations and charities that are needy, as part of celebrating their birthday.

Little Rose Centre was established in 1993 by Ouma Majola who was orphaned at 11-years-old.

The centre caters for 84 vulnerable, neglected and orphaned children, 18 of them share a rondavel for a place to sleep.

“I just want to see children happy and fed.

“I grew up without parents, I never completed my education but I saw there is a need in Kliptown,” Majola said.

She started a vegetable garden and approached the Children’s Welfare for assistance.

She also received a double decker bus from the City of Joburg where she catered for children from.

The centre has since grown and now has a crèche for children between one and six-years-old.

Little Rose Centre had an early Christmas because of the relief received from 702, Majola said.

“People only come to the centre once a year on Mandela Day but 702 surprised us.

“It was something very special,” Majola said.

The station had a live broadcast from Little Rose Centre last Friday with morning show host John Robbie.

He encourages citizens to take responsibility and make a difference.

“Even if we have the best government we must realise that they can’t do everything.

“Everybody has a responsibility, we can all make a difference and we don’t have to go far to do so,” said Robbie.

Despite their circumstances, children from Little Rose Centre are still happy and Robbie says that is lovely.

Little Rose Centre relies on donations from tourists and other organisations.

They cannot get subsidies from government as the structures aren’t permanent.

“Our children didn’t have enough but now everything is enough,” Majola said.

Robbie said leadership is important in order to help the underprivileged.

“When in doubt, make a difference.

“Just do it,” Robbie said.
