Shack burns to ashes

Family loses everything in fire.

The home to a family of six in Naledi Camp burnt to the ground during the early hours of the morning on Saturday.

None of the family members were injured but three of them went to Zola Clinic to receive smoke inhalation treatment right after the incident.

“I don’t know what started the fire, no one knows. “I just remember seeing fire coming from the other end of the shack, where the couches were sitting.

“As I saw that fire I took all of the children out of the house and when I went back to look for a pants to were, the fire had already spread to the rest of the house,” said Saul Mhlambi, the owner of shack.

“We had just bought a new set of couches and that is where the fire started. “I remember something waking me up and when I looked at the other room, I saw the couches on fire.

“That’s when I shouted at my father, telling him that there is a fire in the house.

“We lost everything we have ever owned in that fire, we have no choice but to start all over again,” said Nomathemba Mhlambi, Saul’s second daughter.

“I don’t think I will allow my parents to re-build their lives here again. This place is not for us. “My parents will be moving in with me because I don’t think any of my family is safe here,” said Maki Mhlambi.
