Vulindlel’eJozi to create 200 000 opportunities

COJ brings more opportunities to the youth as it is youth month.

The City of Joburg launched a youth empowerment programme to create more opportunities for the youth of South Africa.

The City together with Harambe, launched Vulindlel’ eJozi yesterday in Newtown which is designed to breakdown barriers to opportunities for the youth through skills development, entry-level job training and placement, entrepreneurship development and access to further education.

Executive Mayor Parks Tau, said that the programme is aimed at opening various economic empowerment opportunities for 200 000 youth.

Tammy Campbell, executive director of Harambe said that the reason they launched this progamme is because half of young South Africans are unemployed.

“Approximately 800 000 people aged 19-34 are unemployed and over 30% of residents in informal settlements are under 35.

“This is because employers often require prior experience to mitigate their risks,” said Campbell.

The programme is targeted at young people between 18-34 who are unemployed, discouraged work seekers and Grade 10 school leavers.

The Mayor said that they are breaking down barriers to create opportunities and making them available to the youth.

As of June 16, Vulindlel’ eJozi will move to full operation and registration will be via mobisite which will not require internet access to allow those without internet to also apply.
