Atleast one cop was shot during a shootout with hijackers at the Lenasia Link offramp on the N12.
The Lenasia police were on their way to Soweto when they came across a hijacking at the Lenasia offramp.
It is alleged a cigarette truck was being hijacked by five men who were all armed with pistols.
The hijackers started shooting at police and one cop was shot and taken to hospital.
Vincent Mashiteng, communications officer at Protea SAPS said that the truck was found abandoned in Protea South where some cigarette boxes were missing.
No arrests have been made as the police are still trying to trace the vehicle of the hijackers.
