Scam alert!

The City of Johannesburg urges its customers to look out for ‘changing of banking details’ email scam.

The City of Johannesburg (COJ) is warning its customers to be aware of a new ‘changing of banking details’ email scam currently taking place.

Director of Customer Communications Kgamanye Maphologela said the COJ urges its customers to be careful of these emails to avoid being scammed.

Maphologela said: “We were made aware of the scam by one customer who recently received a fraudulent email alleging that the city has changed its banking  account details.

“It is important for our customers to know that at no point will the COJ send its clients an email regarding information of such a sensitive nature.

“We urge all our customers to be on the lookout for such emails and that if they receive them they should alert us immediately.”

Should a customer be unsure of any information they get by email regarding their municipal account or the city changing its banking details, they are requested to contact the COJ call centre or visit the COJ’s nearest offices.
