Pupils arrested for carrying illegal weapons

Moroka police school search campaign to continue.

Moroka Police Station last week arrested more than 10 pupils from different schools for possession of dangerous weapons and drugs.

This came during a Moroka police school search campaign which stretched to as far as Lenasia where they joined force with Lenasia police to make the campaign effective.

Moroka communications spokesperson John Serala said the campaign will carry on in many schools in the areas they are policing.

“This campaign has played a huge role in helping us to fight crime at schools and we won’t cancel it or postpone it, we will carry on with it until we see that crime at schools has stopped.

“Since the school search campaign was introduced, we have confiscated guns, drugs, dagga, nyaope and other illegal substances from pupils and we are happy that most school governing bodies and principals cooperate with us.”

Serala said: “We can’t announce which schools we will be visiting soon because we don’t want to make pupils aware, we want to pounce on them by surprise and punish the guilty.

“Schools are a field of learning and teaching and not a battlefield and we will deal heavily with pupils who think they can do as they please at schools and bully other pupils.”
