Hostel induna happy after meeting COJ
MMC to meet with Diepkloof Hostel residents to discuss the reallocation of CPUs.
The City was expected to allocate 240 units to ease the overcrowding at the deteriorating hostel.
Hostel chairperson (induna) Mxolisi Thusini said, “The meeting went well.
“There will be a formal meeting and the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) Dan Bovu will address the hostel residents on May 17.”
“The MEC agreed that there were problems with the allocation of Community Residential Units (CRU’s).
“The beneficiaries were expected to pay R750 rental per month for the two-bedroom units.
“The beneficiaries that had been identified by the allocation team appointed by hostel residents, were suspended,”said Thusini.
He accused the municipality of attempting to allocate the units to people who were not residing at the hostel.
Thusini said, “We are suffering here because of overcrowding.
“These new units were built for us, hostel dwellers only.
“We did not understand why the municipality wanted us to share the CPU’s with people from the township (Diepkloof).”
