Pienaar tournament to boost community

The 10^th edition of the annual Steven Pienaar Community Tournament kicks off on June 6, with knockout games to be played on June 12 and 13 and the final on June 16.

The tournament will be played at the Westbury A and B fields, Westbury Oval and the Union Stadium over successive weekends with the U11, U13, U15 and U17 divisions.

Former Bafana Bafana captain and Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar has been part of the Puma football family since July 2011, with whom he supports the community tournament, supplying the Puma kit to all teams which make it through to the quarter-finals.

Pienaar said: “This is where I grew up.

“Lots of people are surprised that I came out of this township, because living conditions are extremely hard.

“So I just want to make these children understand that they can make it out of here and be like me or even better.

“It’s not where you start that counts, but where you end up.”
