Residents celebrate Liesl

Liesl puts Eldos on the map and show that there is hope.

After the crowning of Liesl Laurie as Miss South Africa 2015 residents celebrated in front of her grandmother’s house.

They showed their support in song, dance and any possible way.

Passing motorists hooted in solidarity while residents paraded the street carrying pictures of Laurie.

Her neighbour Lorna Fisher said she is excited for Laurie, especially because she watched her grow up.

“I always admired Liesl, she always carried herself with such dignity.

“I’d see her go to school, walking as if she was on a ramp,” Fisher said.

She said that she is especially proud of Laurie’s grandmother, Lorraine Laurie.

“I always told her that Liesl will be Miss South Africa and Miss World,” Fisher said.

Claudette Muller, a resident said she is proud of Laurie.

“She showed people that Eldos does have talent, she gives us hope,” Muller said.

“Laurie has just become one of Eldorado Park’s most celebrated residents.

“Her victory is also a victory for our community and will serve as a great inspiration to the young and elderly alike to believe in their God-given talents and abilities and make a valuable contribution to society,” said Councillor Meshack Van Wyk

Gavin Jantjies who says he is a relative of Laurie said she will be the best Miss SA the world has ever seen.

“We wish her God’s blessing and encourage her to stay true to herself because that is what brought her to where she is,” Jantjies said.

A community initiative was launched by the Local Drug Action Committee where residents are encouraged to show their support by making Liesl Laurie their profile photo on all social networks.
