Matriculants in copying scandal get second chance

Pupils who were assisted in copying by teachers and chief invigilators, can register for supplementary examination.

Matriculants that were implicated  in the group copying scandal last year, are being given a chance to register to write supplementary examinations.

The Department of Education said, the pupils can only write supplementary examinations in subjects they were accused of copying in.

This consideration will however, only be possible if it can be proved that these pupils were assisted by chief invigilators or subject teachers in the copying and did not act on their own.

Those pupils that copied on their own, will not be allowed to apply for writing supplementary examinations.

The department said the Minister of Basic Education Angie Motsekga had approved a special concession for these pupils at their districts and schools.
