Beware bogus modelling agents

Kliptown police warn residents of scams.

The Kliptown police are alerting the community to be careful and not fall victim to the scam of a bogus modelling agent operating from Maponya Mall.

According to the police’s constable Thuli Ngwenya, the culprit lures unsuspecting victims by telling them she is an agent for modelling and when interested, asks to take a picture of you.

“Unsuspectingly the culprit will then tell you to leave your belongings with her and get ready for the picture taking.

“While in the midst of preparation, she walks away with your items.

“Three case of theft by false pretence have since been opened at Kliptown station and investigations are underway,” she says.

Ngwenya says the community should also stop falling for easy money making schemes as in the end, they themselves become victims of crime as they never get any payouts back, instead they lose their money.

She says now that it’s the New Year, universities and colleges are opening soon and so are fly by nights which are on the rise.

“Proper background and registration checks must be made by the parents to avoid these scams,” says Ngwenya.
