Diepkloof’s Elsie crowned Miss Teen Soweto 2014

Newly crowned queen vows to plough back through beneficial community initiatives that involve the youth.

Diepkloof born Elsie Mgabi (17) was crowned Miss Teen Soweto 2014.

For the fifth year running the prestigious Miss Teen Soweto beauty pageant took the centre stage, last Thursday at the Soweto theatre.

The pageant has grown from humble beginnings in 2009 and has always been well supported by the youth of Soweto.

The Grade 10 Fons Luminis Secondary School pupil says the competition was a bit nerve wreaking because all the girls were beautiful at the pageant.

Mgabi said: “With six months of preparation, the crowning of Miss Teen was based on the challenges that were given to us and how we deliver ourselves to the crowd.

“It is an overwhelming feeling to be Miss Teen Soweto, because I did not see this one coming.

“I want to form an organisation for grooming girls and make sure that they all have school uniform, this will be my way of giving back to the community.

“My dream is to study medicine at Wits.”

Mgabui beat 20 other teenage girls from all areas of Soweto, as she walked away with the grand pot of R10 000.
