Robin Good Initiative donates tunnels

Community grows vegetables to make a living.

In October this year, a community centre was opened in Protea Glen Extension 11.

The Joe Gqabi Integrated Centre that was officially opened by the Gauteng Social Development MEC Faith Mazibuko is now up and running.

On November 28, the Robin Good Initiative gave plant tunnels to the centre where the community can grow and sell vegetables.

Brian Plant from the Robin Good Initiative said that they have donated over five thousand tunnels nationwide.

“We are an uplifting organisation and we help people grow their own vegetables to create sustainable food and income,” said Plant.

Five people from the community were each given a tunnel that they must look after but should work as a team.

Thabang Botswe, from Waterworks Informal Settlement was one of the five people given the tunnel to look after.

“I promise to take care of this tunnel and it will help me keep busy these holidays because now that I am done with school for this year, there isn’t much to do so I will be busy growing vegetables instead of drinking alcohol and doing other bad things,” said Botswe.

The centre also has many other services like day care centre for children, elderly people and also have social workers on site.
