Nation grieves for athletes.

Yesterday, many South Africans gathered at the Standard Bank Arena to give tribute to SA athletes who passed on last weekend.

The department of Sport and Recreation held a memorial service for three sportsmen namely Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, Phindile Mwelase and Senzo Meyiwa.

They all died  consecutively as Muluadzi passed on Friday in a car accident, followed by Mwelase who died on Saturday in hospital and Meyiwa who was shot to death on Sunday night.

Mwelase died on October 25 at hospital after she participated in a tournament on October 10 where she was knocked down and rushed to hospital.

She was still an upcoming boxer and her trainer Stanley Ndlovu said that it’s a pity she died before SA could see her real talent.

Mulaudzi who was born in Muduluni village will forver be remembered for his hard work as he is the first black African to win 800m silver medal.

Football lovers also came in large numbers to give tribute to the Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa who was also a goalkeepr for Orlando Pirates.

President of South African Football Association, Dr Danny Jordaan said that they will collect guns and build a statue of Meyiwa that will be placed outside SAFA house.

Fikile Mbalula, Minister of Department of Sport and Recreation gave a strong message to soccer players and the youth of SA as a whole that their fame and success shouldn’t attract unholy friends.

The families of the deceased were comforted when they saw how South Africans honoured the sport stars and knew they were not the only ones grieving but the nation grieved with them as well.
