Primary pupils’ education threatened

Two suspects are on the run with stolen primary school essentials.

Moruta Thuto Primary School was robbed of its gadgets, valued at an estimated R32 000 in the early hours of on October 29.

The alleged robbers took 38 tablets out of the 40 that were supplied by the Department of Education as part of the MEC’s projects, a server, a plasma television and a public address system (PA system).

The two suspects, one armed, entered the school premises and assaulted two security guards who were on duty before tying them with shoelaces.

Matshidiso Mashile, principal of the school said the guards were unarmed as the school does not have enough finances to buy firearms and other equipment for security purposes.

Spokesperson for the police, Constable Sibusiso Chauke said the guards managed to free themselves by setting the laces alight.

“They sustained serious injuries and one of them cannot walk. Both have not been able to come to work since the incident.” confirmed Mashile.

She pleads with the community to not buy stolen goods and to come forward should someone attempt to sell the goods to them.

“It is unfortunate that the education of a black child is not a priority to these offenders”, said saddened Mashile, “Pupils are heartbroken and see this as a drawback to their future”.

Chauke and Mashile appeal to anyone with information to come forward or contact 011 939 2795 or 011 983 3302.
