Pupils awarded for excellence in sports

Children encouraged to get their groove on from a young age.

An award ceremony was conducted yesterday at the Arthur Ashe Sports Complex in Central Western Jabavu.

This was in the spirit of celebrating excellence in sports from pupils of Soweto,

This comes after pupils from various primary school were identified in a three day sports development.

A total of 14 prizes including different sports gear and certificates were handed over to the most athletically gifted pupils who showed a sterling performance in sports.

These awards are aimed at helping these children develop in the various sports.

Dr Claire Nicholson, Director and Expert Advisor of the Move-It, Moving Matters and the Get Ahead Sports Programme said that it is imperative for children to start being active at a young age.

“For this reason, we are awarding these children with the equipment that will help them in carrying out what they have learnt in this course.

“This will also mean that no one can have excuses of these pupils not participating in sports as they now have allocated people, sporting centres available for them and the equipment to help enhance their talent and skills.”
