‘Be cautious with your car and valuables’

Police urge residents to avoid leaving their valuables in their cars as this tempts criminals.

As the festive season creeps in, the Moroka police urge residents to be careful with their cars and personal belongings which they leave inside their motor vehicles.

Police’s John Serala said that during holiday seasons there tends to be an increase in motor vehicles theft as people leave their cars unlocked in their yards while on holiday while others don’t lock their gates.

Some residents also leave their personal belongings in the car which attracts criminals.

Serala said it becomes easy for thieves to steal a car that no alarm system, therefore he pleases with residents to make sure they install an alarm system or tracker in their cars, especially if they don’t have a garage so that it can be recovered quickly if stolen.

“We urge residents to avoid leaving their valuables in their cars as this tempts criminals.

“Residents should also avoid parking on the streets and in public places that are quiet and dark because these are normally hot spots for criminals,” he said.
