Apply for your smart ID at Maponya Mall

Maponya Mall Home Affairs Smart ID Card Office opened.

Monday saw the Home Affairs Smart ID Card dedicated Office at Maponya Mall opened.

In a ceremony that was opened by the Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba, different musical icons including Abigail Khubeka, Sipho Hotstix Mabuse and Yvonne Chaka Chaka just to name a few received their smart ID cards.

Gigaba says his department will continue the roll-out of dedicated offices to handle smart ID cards across the country.

“The department has opened 70 dedicated smart card offices and another 70 will be opened before the end of the financial year. The facilities will help communities apply for the new documents,” said Gigaba.

He said currently only first time applicants and those who are above 60-years-old have been asked to come and apply for their documents and their applications are free.

He said smart identity cards, will replace the green bar-coded identity books and were rolled out to first-time applicants and pensioners early this year.
