School reunion unites old friends

Old friends celebrate their reunion in style.

The Progress High School Reunion Class of 86-93 held recently was a roaring success.

Held at Tswelopele Hall in Pimville and attended by former pupils of the school, teachers and former teachers who were presented with acknowledgement certificates and presents.

It was a colourful day marked by nostalgia and good old school songs from the 1980s.

Tshepo Vana, the MC said an event like this needs to be hosted yearly so that they address the needs of the school.

“We need to come up with ideas to make this event an even bigger and better one,” he said.

Vana thanked former pupil and Environmental MMC for the City of Johannesburg, Matshidiso Mfikoe for attending.

He said Lehlohonolo Shale a member of the Joburg council, Bob Nameng a community leader and founder of SKY (Soweto Kliptown Youth) were also in attendance,” he said.

He said that if it wasn’t for all the former pupils that attended the day wouldn’t have been a success.

He said after more than two decades old friends met and reminisced.

Lorato Galeng one of the organisers said that the purpose of the event was to forge a link between current and former pupils.

“Current pupils need to know that it is possible to make it not only in South Africa, but to make it in the world,” she said.

Event organisers made sure the food was of top quality and all former pupils were each given tokens as a way of encouraging them and uplifting those in need.
