Five children die after allegedly eating snacks from Naledi spaza shop

Police spokesperson Constable Vusi Thokwan stated that five inquest dockets have been opened.

The community of Naledi is shock-stricken following the death of five children in the area.

It is alleged that the children, all under the age of ten years; died after eating snacks they had bought from one of the spaza shops run by foreign nationals, on Sunday, October 06.

“Four children died while they were receiving treatment at a local clinic and another was dead on arrival,” Thokwan said.

He added that the children were allegedly all playing together when they decided to buy some snacks at a nearby spaza shop in Naledi.

“Detective Surgent Baholo and Surgent Nxumalo proceeded to the shop to confiscate the goods,” he explained.
